About the role

Booker Group is recruiting for a Technical Standards and Compliance Controller, this  is a senior role in the Booker Technical team that is responsible for creating and maintaining technical policies, procedures and systems to comply with legislative, company standards and requirements which are aligned with Tesco.  The role directly manages the team across technical roles and our quality assurance team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure my team comply with health & safety, legal standards and company procedures
  • Ensure my team understand their role, responsibilities and the behaviours expected of them
  • Identify best ways of working and make changes for improvements where required
  • Network externally to create mutually beneficial opportunities for the business and my own personal development
  • Keep up to date on technical legislation and technical compliance to ensure existing policies are current and applicable
  • Work proactively to identify opportunities to enhance and improve brand perception
  • Ensure robust systems and procedures are in place and maintained to comply with legal and statutory requirements
  • Deliver an efficient and effective internal audit schedule and proactively mitigate business risk
  • Maintain a framework to enable consistent reporting and recording of all technical due diligence activities
  • Promote a culture of customer satisfaction within the team and ensure service standards are maintained at all times
  • Use customer complaint feedback constructively to drive consistency, whilst improving quality and value of own brand products
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships within the business and take actions to improve customer satisfaction
  • Complete work to required deadlines without compromising on standards and customer service
  • Provide analysis, reports and recommendations as required for the business to make informed decisions
  • Support and assist the wider technical team as and when required, ensuring consistent levels of customer service
  • Work with the technical management team to formulate policies and procedures reflecting customer concerns and demands
  • Ensure suppliers demonstrate competency to consistently deliver to legal and company standards
  • Constructively challenge suppliers to ensure product safety and legality is always achieved
  • Proactively manage product testing and benchmarking, mitigating any consumer risk
  • Obtain and maintain cost effective third party solutions where required

  • Provide solutions where I can and escalate where appropriate to mitigate business risk
  • Support the wider business as appropriate to ensure supplier competency

You will need

  • Food related degree
  • Drive to succeed and deliver projects.
  • Excellent team management skills
  • Customer focus
  • Excellence in building positive relationships
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, being able to communicate effectively and efficiently taking into account the nature of the audience.
  • Good technical documentation skills, reviewing/ writing technical documentation with development teams and specialists.
  • Good problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Commercial acumen and Know How.
  • Background of working in a food or non food environment.
  • The ability to manage risk and crisis in calm and pragmatic way with pace
  • Excellent technical project management background with successful delivery of change programs to time, quality and budget.
  • Good understanding of technical food and non food skills
  • Consistent delivery of results.
