About the role

Responsible for leading the Venus Operations Team to ensure all sites operate in a healthy, safe, and legally compliant manner. This role is pivotal in delivering exceptional customer satisfaction and achieving budgeted sales and profit targets. The successful candidate will foster a collaborative team environment, support integration with Booker, and ensure Venus delivers industry-leading choice, price, and service compared to on-trade competitors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational strategy and efficiency agenda, aligning with the Venus plan and cascading plans effectively to site teams (Key Objectives – HSL, Deliver Sales and profit budget, customer satisfaction and transformation plan actions).
  • Drive best practices across all sites to enhance customer satisfaction and identify growth opportunities with both new and existing customers.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our customers, their needs, motivations, and alternatives and ensure the Operational teams are aligned to that.
  • Optimise resource utilisation to maximise sales and profitability, while driving operational efficiencies (taking the best from Booker to make Venus better)
  • Leverage technology to enhance collaboration, streamline operations, and improve customer engagement.
  • Cultivate an open, empowering culture that motivates teams, encourages innovation, and supports high performance.
  • Build and maintain a strong diverse talent pipeline, ensuring robust training and development across all sites.
  • Ensure all sites maintain the highest standards of health and safety, proactively identifying and addressing hazards.
  • Promote a values-driven culture that aligns with Booker’s ethos of being ‘A Place to Get On’.
  • Uphold the Business Code of Conduct, always acting with integrity and due diligence.

You will need

Operational skills relevant for this job

  • Successful career to date with a core skill set around leading (leaders) and building a successful team
  • Exceptional coaching capability, with a best-in-class motivational style and a people/customer – focused mind set
  • Strong, empathetic team leadership experience and a proven developer of talent, an effective coach and an inspiring leader
  • Commercial knowhow and data literate
  • Exceptional communication & stakeholder management
  • Ability to deliver systems and process transformation

Experience relevant for this job:

  • Ability to make commercially robust decisions to maximise customer satisfaction and cash profit
  • Experience of being outward looking, bringing together data and innovation from internal and external sources to meet the needs of customers
  • Strong intellectual capability, supported by exceptional levels of emotional intelligence, judgement and empathy
  • Positive in nature, but driven to exceed performance expectations
  • Resilience and the ability to manage multiple priorities
