Embracing Inclusivity: Introducing Our Disability Network

Diversity and inclusion are essential to our success. Following the launch of our Disability Network in December 2024, we are more committed than ever to creating a supportive environment for all employees. Here’s what our network aims to achieve through its core objectives and pillars:

Amplify: Embedding Disability Confidence

·Feedback and Insights: We enhance disability confidence by reflecting on our practices and continuously adapting our policies to support employees with both visible and hidden disabilities. Ongoing feedback ensures our strategies are effective and responsive.

Consult: Increasing Awareness and Involvement

·Comms and Events: Our Disability Network keeps the business informed about disability initiatives. We organise events and communication campaigns to raise awareness and encourage participation. Open communication fosters a culture of inclusion, making everyone aware of how they can contribute.

Celebrate: Raising Awareness

·Talent and Development: We celebrate the contributions of colleagues with disabilities to promote understanding. We also focus on attracting and developing talent through inclusive recruitment and promotion practices enriching our workplace by creating career growth pathways.

The Women@Booker Network is an initiative focused on empowering women within the company by fostering connection, support, and professional development, launched in 2023.

Through the Women@Booker Network, the company hosts a range of events, seminars, and workshops that focus on a variety of important topics such as leadership, career progression, work-life balance, and women’s health.

This initiative promotes gender equality, enhances workplace culture, and contributes to Booker’s commitment to diversity and well-being, benefiting both employees and the business.

In addition to supporting women, Booker also recognizes the importance of mental health and well-being for all employees. The company partners with Andy’s Man Club, a men’s mental health and suicide awareness charity. Through this collaboration, Andy's Man Club delivers talks to teams across the business, providing valuable resources and creating a supportive environment for men to open up about their mental health.

The LGBTQ+ at Booker Colleague Network was created to make sure that everyone is welcome at Booker, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The LGBTQ+ is run by members of the LGBTQ+ Community and allies and open for members of the LGBTQ+ Community and allies to join. Created in 2023 the Network offers a dedicated space for LGBTQ+ Colleagues to come together to share experiences and issues with each other. 

The Network also support Pride events across the Country. Colleagues have been able to take part in Manchester Pride and we're always looking to support more local Prides for our Colleagues. The Network recognises that there are different needs within the LGBTQ+ Community and has supported a Vigil for Trans Day of Remembrance and run sessions to help allies understand how they can support our Trans+ Colleagues. 

LGBTQ+ Colleagues can struggle to bring their full selves to work, the Network is on hand to help with any issues faced or connect individuals with other LGBTQ+ Colleagues. Everyone is welcome at Booker - Booker is a place where LGBTQ+ Colleagues can thrive.  

On September 25, 2023, we proudly launched our Race & Ethnicity (R&E) Network – a space created to celebrate diversity, spark meaningful conversations, and help shape an inclusive future at Booker.

Our network is built on teamwork. We’ve got Executive Sponsors leading the way, passionate Chairs steering the ship, and three dedicated committees focusing on Events & Comms, Colleague Feedback & Insight, and Talent & Development. Add to that our incredible Members and Allies, and we’ve got a powerhouse of voices and ideas driving change.

What’s our purpose?

·Amplifying the voices of our diverse colleagues to truly understand their experiences.

·Consulting with the business to guide inclusive decisions and shape our DE&I strategy.

·Celebrating the unique cultures, stories, and personalities that make us who we are.

How do we make it happen? Through four key pillars: EducationEngagementCommunity, and Growth. Together, we’re building a workplace where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
